Corporate & Governance

Our Board

Our board are amazing as individuals and as a group, they are not remunerated for the contributions as Directors all year every year and they provide very diverse great wisdoms to the CEO and ultimately our clients and staff. The are eight seats that are filled by people with the following backgrounds: Clinical Neuropsychology, Legal, Accountancy, Business, Government, Justice, and our 1st Nations seat. The Board are responsible for setting the culture, agency wellbeing, overseeing Risk (management) including solvency, quality accreditation, and certification, and compliance with our regulatory environment (legislation, industrial Awards, service agreements, our own Constitution, policy framework and stakeholder satisfaction (Client and employee) all via the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Within this skills matrix which guides recruitment to the Board, gender, cultural balance and experience is carefully considered.

The Constitutional arrangement for arbias as a not-for-profit agency is the Directors are the Members, and the Members are the Directors.

The Board meets monthly outside business hours as does the Finance, Risk, Audit committee.

The CEO meets with the Chair several times per month outside Board meetings to cover off on matters that ensure transparency but may not be matters requiring full Board attention

A Message from the Chair

I have been involved in some way or another with arbias since it’s inception including assisting to set up the organisation in 1990-92, then as a Board member since 1992. Arbias started off working with and supporting individuals with alcohol related brain injury, but over the years has expanded to support individuals with an acquired brain injury from any source, as well as expanding the services and supports it offers.

I have remained involved with arbias over the years because it is an amazing organisation with dedicated, supportive and compassionate staff, who go out of their way to provide the best services and support possible for vulnerable people. It has not always been easy, but the skills and dedication of staff mean that every issue is faced head on with the best possible outcome being the goal.

I have also had amazing Board members over the years, especially during my time as Chairperson. They come from a variety of backgrounds and are all very dedicated to improving the lives of people with an acquired brain injury. They do it for love (no payment), so you know that someone who puts there hand up and doesn’t expect anything in return is working for the common good.

A Message from the CEO

In my experience, it’s important to stay grounded in the belief of why we do what we do regardless of our individual roles. This clarity helps guide our decisions and actions and allows us to manage both conscious and unconscious bias. The latter can be harder to get right, but with intention, it’s achievable.

This mindset also helps us navigate the ongoing challenge of balancing social justice with business modelling. While these forces can sometimes feel at odds, maintaining this balance is essential to serve all stakeholders well.

At every level, arbias continues to prioritise the vulnerable individuals we support while also maintaining solvency and financial strength. And I’d suggest, in that order. This approach has guided us for many years, with around 85% of our resources directed to client care and support, and the rest dedicated to good governance and staff support. Less is more at the top of our structure.

In addition, we’ll continue to invest in and strengthen our people—across frontline services, admin, corporate support, and our Board—extending on the work we’ve built over the past year. Because it’s the why behind your work that makes the real difference.

In August 2025, I’ll mark 20 years as CEO of arbias—and proudly so. Even on challenging days, I look forward to what lies ahead. Why? Because of the dedication and incredible service our staff and partners bring to the lives of those we support.

Our Executive Leaders

Over the years I have worked here, I have seen how arbias embodies evidence based and person-centred practice in our day-to-day interactions with clients and our drive to assist them to achieve desired outcomes. Arbias and my role within the organisation matter so much to me as our mission and values align with my values and goal to assist people with an ABI to achieve their goals and make a positive difference to their lives and ‘make it happen’ through prevention, education, intervention, treatment, and community safety, to name a few. I lead a stand-out team of neuropsychologists that put this into practice every day. I’m a strong advocate of servant leadership, a leadership style in which the goal of the leader is to serve, with the mind set of ‘what can I do to help you do your job better.

Dr Melissa Slayo

Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist, Manager NPAIS Neuropsychological Assessment & Intervention Services arbias Ltd

As the State Manager Client Services, I have the privileged of leading a team of highly skilled and passionate professionals who are dedicated to supporting clients living with an acquired brain injury to achieve their goals and live their best lives.

With over 30 years’ experience in client services, I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the community and to the lives of many through my work and advocacy.

Arbias promotes the values and ethos that resonate with me on a personal level, and I am immensely proud of the team that I lead and quality of services that we provide.

Mario Nuzzo

State Manager,
Client Services (VIC)

What drives me at arbias is the opportunity to lead meaningful change for people with acquired brain injury and complex needs. I’m passionate about building sustainable, person-centered services that deliver real impact, helping individuals regain independence and connection within their communities.

In my role as NSW State Manager, I’m responsible for the ITS NSW program and leading statewide growth to ensure arbias can deliver more specialist services to more people, including neuropsychological assessments, core supports, and attendant care. I’m motivated by data-driven decision-making, strong partnerships, and a collaborative team culture that fosters learning, innovation, and accountability.

My leadership philosophy is grounded in trust, inclusion, and empowerment. With over 20 years’ experience across disability, community, and health sectors, I’m deeply committed to strengthening arbias’ footprint.

Outside of work, I’m a proud dad to three daughters and an active community member, serving on a local board, supporting sports groups, and enjoying long runs and bike rides through national parks.
Thomas Due

State Manager,
Client services (NSW)

Being a member of Senior Management, as well as convenor of the arbias Health & Safety Committee, whilst also managing facilities and fleet services, I strongly believe in ensuring staff and clients are safe. Managing the fleet and keeping vehicles in peek condition allows the continuity of community access and support to the vast client group in both states and as a result, promotes the arbias brand to the Sector. Facilities are maintained through adequate caretaking arrangements, security and scheduled maintenance ensures buildings and equipment are kept in compliant order.

I’d like to think that my 50+ years’ experience in disability and nursing enables me to be a good listener and draw on those years of experience to advise and support staff with difficult situations and challenges.

One of the drivers that motivates me to come to work each day is the dedication, passion and energy that the arbias staff demonstrate daily. With a variety of programs in Victoria and NSW that can be complex and unpredictable, the staff are unphased and just back their judgement and experience no matter what the challenge, and that blows me away; even after 14 years at arbias.

Outside of work although I always enjoyed Martial Arts at a younger age, my sporting interests have since shifted to squash and golf, both of which I find invigorating and frustrating at the same time.

Thomas Spencer

Manager, Corporate Services Facilities & OH &S

Our Team Leaders

I have been working with the NSW ITS program for quite some years, firstly as a caseworker and for the past few years as the Program Lead. Working alongside the State Manager to run this program is one of my biggest motivators in life.

Helping the team and guiding them to such great results and seeing the positive outcomes they achieve. Not only for the clients of course, but the job satisfaction this brings to our caseworkers makes my job an absolute pleasure.

Having such a tight-knit team and sharing in everyone’s success stories in Arbias makes me very proud to be part of this organisation. The way we all look after one another and the way Arbias looks after all of us gives me huge amounts of job satisfaction. I know whatever direction I turn to there is support and assistance.
In my down time away from the job, I enjoy nature, the beach and I am very passionate about my hobby Family History.

Cath Light

Program Lead arbias NSW

I enjoy my role at TAC RIPL & AC Team Manager as it provides me the opportunity to learn and grow through new challenges within my role. Whether it’s solving a problem, collaborating with a team, or finding more efficient ways to get things done, there’s always something new to engage with.

What keeps me motivated is seeing the results of my hard work, knowing that my work contributes to a larger goal and helps others is incredibly rewarding. I also value working in an environment where ideas are shared and supported.

I am Proud to work for arbias as I see the hard work we do and see the outcomes.

I am a mum of 4 children; I call this my second job and outside of work my time is spent organising kids’ day to day activities and support my children to live their best lives. I do enjoy binging on social media and entertainment platforms, listening to music and going to Bingo.

Kerrie Guy

Team Manager Accommodation Services

Hi there, my name is Marina and I’m the service integration & business development manager at arbias. I really like this role as it allows me to use a variety of skills and no two days are the same. It fits my interests and gives me autonomy to structure my days in a way that suits me. Being part of arbias is great predominantly because of the people and culture here, I find it to be a really positive workplace, and I feel good coming to work each day.

Marina Simundic

Service integration and quality assurance Project Lead

I’ve worked at arbias for close to ten years, and it’s the clients and my colleagues who have kept me here. The cohort of individuals we support is incredibly unique and often requires specialist care something arbias is truly equipped to deliver.

Over the years, this role has helped me grow both personally and professionally. Whether it’s making a small difference in a client’s day or supporting major changes over time, I’ve felt the impact of the work we do. The team at arbias has always been caring, supportive, and committed, and I genuinely look forward to coming to work each day.

Outside of work, I love spending time in nature staying active and embracing adventure. It’s a completely different energy from my work environment, but that contrast grounds me. Having both keeps me balanced, and it’s something I really value in my life.

Stephen Jones

Manager Community Facilitation

As Office Manager at arbias, my work can involve anything from A to Z that relates to the office but for me, it’s so much more than that.

The values at arbias not only align with my professional ethics but also resonate with me on a personal level. That’s what makes working here truly meaningful.

Some might say I’m the ‘mama’ of the office looking after everything to ensure things run smoothly. Supporting others, even in a behind the scenes way, gives me great satisfaction. It’s rewarding to know I’ve made someone’s day a little easier.

Coming to work each day brings me joy, because no two days are the same it keeps me on my toes and constantly engaged.

I also take great pride in working for an organisation so deeply committed to the wellbeing of both its clients and its staff. The good news stories that come through every so often are absolutely heartwarming. Hearing about the remarkable progress clients make with the support of our dedicated team fills me with pride. If I can contribute in any way, shape, or form it’s incredibly fulfilling.

arbias is also a culturally diverse organisation that makes a conscious effort to acknowledge and celebrate significant cultural dates throughout the year. I truly enjoy organising these events, where we all come together to reflect and celebrate as a team.

Above all, we work collaboratively. At arbias, everyone’s efforts no matter how big or small contribute to the remarkable outcomes we achieve together.

Kathy Seriotis

Office Manager

I’m the Team Manager of the Intensive Specialist Support Services at Arbias, which includes Intensive Specialist Case Management, Psycho-social Recovery Coaching, and NDIS Support Coordination. I genuinely love my work, supporting staff and clients to create inclusive, empowering spaces is what motivates me daily. I’m proud to be part of an organisation that delivers truly holistic, person-centred support to people with acquired brain injuries. I’m also involved in our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team and contribute to strategic plans for the future.

Before my career in social work, I spent two years solo travelling through India, Southeast Asia, Europe, Middle East and North Africa. I worked in Ukraine shelters in Poland and Hungary and volunteered in animal shelters across the Middle East and Northern Africa. These experiences deeply shaped my passion for social justice and led me to pursue leadership in social work to create meaningful, macro-level change from both the front line and beyond. Outside of work, I enjoy music, socialising, and quality time with loved ones.
